Music has played such a big part in my life...on any given day, in any given decade of my life it has helped me relive times gone by, played in the background of major and minor "adventures", picked me up when I was struggling, and cushioned my fall when the bottom fell out from under me. For me "Cats in the Cradle" and anything Doobie Brothers sends me right back to my 6th grade class during an "indoor recess" where we danced, played games, and when I unfolded a paper clip and rounded it out before putting it over my teeth because I wanted to wear a retainer like one of my best friends.
"Stairway to Heaven" is definitely junior high, where I danced (and made out) with a sweet souled boy who is now a man and still a (long distance) part of my life. And "We will Rock You" brings me kicking and screaming back to Rockville High School, celebrating football team wins, braving the drama of "mean girls", and longing for weekends wtih my high school sweetheart (now my husband).
In college I was all about Phil Collins. Penn State football. My dorm room with kelly green carpeting and cinder block walls. Walking everywhere. Grilled cheese and tomato soup on cold snowy days. It all comes rushing back when I hear a Phil Collins song (probably referred to by the current generation as "oldies rock"!).
So it comes as no surprise to me that I've been searching for music to help transport me immediately back to Squam. And now this Squammie has created an imix of her Squam 09 workshop songs that played in the background of my creative adventures in September. Thank you, Sarah!
I am grateful for the music...it soothes my soul.
